    PRACTICING GOLF AT HOME : 5 WAYS TO IMPROVE

     Golf Swing 

    Improvise with what you can do at home in your back yard. If you are trying to improve your beginner golf swing,  some things you can use are a net, a bucket or a basket. The simple drill starts with placing the net or basket about , ten yards away and attempting to hit the ball in. Once you can consistently hit it in 3 to4 consecutive times, then you can increase the distance of the basket to 20 yards or more. Repeat the to hit the ball in, keep trying until you have

     Hula Hoop Chipping Drill

    This drill includes a hula hoop. Or improvise with making a circle with string. Set the golf balls in  5-yard interval from the hoop. 8 balls from 5-40 yards. Start with the ball closest to the hoop, chip it, and have it land within the hoop. For each successful chip move to the next ball further from the hoop.  If you miss one , start again from the beginning.This chipping drill challenges you to utilize multiple different types of chip shots. See how far away from the hoop you can get before having to restart. It’s a great way to track your progress and put some pressure on yourself when you’re trying to clear any of the stages for the first time.


    Chipping to a Towel Drill.

    This is a simple but effective golf drill you can do at home in your living room. Set up a folded up 1 foot by 1 foot towel about 5 feet away from you.Then chip golf balls at the towel trying to land on it to practice carrying your chip shots 5 feet. Start to work your way back while moving the towel first to  10 feet then to 15 feet. Continue so on to get good at distance control with the chipping wedge. The next day repeat this drill, but change and practice with another club.

    The 1-2-3 Putting Drill

     The 1-2-3 putting drill will help you develop a steady, consistent, putting stroke.Place three balls in a row along the same line at equal distances.  First I suggest 3, 6, and 9 ft to start. Roll putts starting from the ball closest to the hole and moving outward. This is a great drill to find rhythm before heading out on the course, or when you’re finishing up your practice for the day. 

    . Meter Stick Putting Drill

     A great drill to make sure you are getting the putter-face square at impact and putting a good roll on the ball.Get a metal meter stick and place it six feet away from the hole (or any target) on the line where the ball should start off the putter face.  Set the ball on the end and hit your putt. If the ball stays on the meter stick the whole way, it means your putter face was square at impact and you put a good roll on the ball. This is also a great putting drill that you can do at home.

    Healthy Habits

    Daily take care of your body. Take time for deep breaths, to stretch, or to meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep. If you are not on actual quarantine, while keeping your distance from others take the time to go for a walk in nature or run outside.Exercise is a proven treatment for stress and depression. Workouts from home are not limited and could include floor exercises, yoga, exercise videos  and using home exercise equipment, such as a bands and stationary bicycle. 

     

    Mental Stimulation

    Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy. Being confined to home for an extended period of time can cause boredom, stress and conflict. Limit the time looking at screens: Don’t rely too heavily on the television and technology. Treat quarantine as an opportunity to do some of those things you never usually have time for, such as board games, craft, drawing and reading. Learn something new! There’s a nearly unlimited number of online classes on websites like edX or Skillshare, whether you want to learn coding or needlepoint.



    Keeping Spirits Up 

    Find out everything you can about the infection from reliable sources. Talk to the other members of the family about the infection. Understanding the illness will reduce anxiety. Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.
